With video instruction and practice that can be completed anytime, anywhere, and lots of live instruction opportunities for students to choose from, we will help your student build a flexible, customizable, medium-term schedule that will help them practice more, process more, and retain more without monopolizing all of their time–and without the superficial and fleeting effects of cramming!
Expertise Born of Decades of ExperienceÂ
The reason students don’t get the scores they want is because they don’t know the material, don’t know the test, and have maybe tried tutoring with people who don’t know the answers. We do. With over three decades of combined experience, we not only know the material inside and out, but also know that students are individuals who need prep solutions that are suited specifically for them. We will not only give your student tips, tricks, and techniques to help significantly boost their scores in every area of the test, but also help them discover bespoke solutions in all areas that are exactly right for them.
Â
Mastery Means Confidence
Students find standardized tests confusing and anxiety-inducing. We can unlock all the secrets of the test to turn nervousness into confidence by making it accessible and even sometimes enjoyable. It feels good to understand something and to use that understanding to your advantage. This is part of how we’ve developed techniques to help calm nerves and kill anxiety. We can help your student replace fear with confidence and turn the test into a triumph instead of a tribulation.
So, Tell Me About The ACT
The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses high school students' academic readiness for college and is accepted by most colleges and universities in the U.S. The ACT measures skills in English, mathematics, reading, and science, and it also includes an optional writing test.
Here are some key features of the ACT:
-
Sections:
- English: Measures your understanding of standard English grammar, usage, and rhetoric skills.
- Mathematics: Tests your mathematical skills, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Reading: Assesses your ability to understand and analyze complex texts.
- Science: Evaluates your interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills related to natural sciences.
-
Scoring:
- Each of the four main sections is scored on a scale of 1 to 36.
- The composite score, which is the average of the four section scores, is also on a scale of 1 to 36.
- The optional writing section is scored separately on a scale of 2 to 12.
-
Optional Writing Test:
- The ACT Writing Test involves composing an essay in response to a prompt.
- While the writing test is optional, some colleges and universities may require or recommend it.
-
Format:
- The test is administered in a paper-and-pencil format, although an online version is also available.
- The time allowed for each section varies, and the entire test typically takes around 3 hours and 35 minutes (including the optional writing test).
-
Testing Dates:
- The ACT is typically offered seven times a year in the United States, with additional international test dates.
-
Registration:
- Students need to register for the test in advance through the official ACT website.
-
Preparation:
- Many students choose to prepare for the ACT through study guides, practice tests, and preparatory courses.
It's essential for students planning to take the ACT to familiarize themselves with the test format, understand the content, and practice effectively to achieve their desired scores. Keep in mind that individual colleges may have specific score requirements or preferences, so it's advisable to check the admission requirements of the institutions you are interested in.
